For myself, I’ve always seen the ability to trust as something like mud-pies; they can be perfectly made, stay perfect for a time, but if not reinforced with straw and properly dried, they fall apart in time. And so it is with trust; it is built with certain ingredients or it falls apart. I use this metaphor because I believe that deep within us we learn to trust or dis-trust at that mud-pie stage of life. Yes, we can work through that as adults, but it is not easy and requires will-power and work…. plus the giant step… into trust!
