About Tia Newcomer – CEO of CaringBridge

Tia Newcomer is the CEO of CaringBridge, a nonprofit digital health platform that helps caregivers access emotional and practical support from their communities. With a career spanning for-profit and nonprofit leadership, Tia partnered with Moementum to realign the CaringBridge team, rebuild the organization’s culture, and lay the foundation for transformational growth.
“When I started, I thought I needed to focus on strategy and tech,” says Tia. “With Moementum’s help, I realized I couldn’t do that unless I aligned my team and led them well.”

A mission-driven nonprofit at a crossroads
Despite steady revenues, CaringBridge’s user growth had stagnated for a decade. Culture issues, organizational silos, and legacy tech debt stood in the way of the transformational impact the organization envisioned.
Choosing alignment and culture as the foundation for growth
New CEO Tia Newcomer partnered with Moementum to rebuild the organization’s culture, realign its teams, and strengthen leadership capacity, laying the foundation for major change.
Setting the stage for 10x impact
Three years later, CaringBridge has a values-driven culture, a more resilient leadership team, and an ambitious goal: reaching 10x more caregivers each year. With its improved Denison survey scores, reduced regrettable turnover, and stronger team alignment, the organization is set up for transformational growth.
Our values now drive our decisions, and I hear them in the conversations around the table. That’s the biggest sign of success

Helping a nonprofit thrive through cultural transformation
CaringBridge, founded in 1997, provides a platform where caregivers can easily connect with their communities for emotional, social, and practical support.
With a mission rooted in compassion and technology, the organization had steadily grown its revenue, but user growth had stalled. New CEO Tia Newcomer saw an urgent need for change, not just in strategy but deep within the culture.
“Everyone loved the mission. But we weren’t rowing in the same boat,” says Tia. “There were silos everywhere, even though we were a small organization.”
Facing cultural drift and operational misalignment
When Tia took the reins, CaringBridge faced major challenges: User growth had stalled for nearly a decade, and tech debt had accumulated over 25 years, slowing innovation.
Internally, the organization suffered from unclear accountability, siloed communication, and a culture that lacked cohesion. After personally interviewing every employee, Tia saw a disconnect between passion for the mission and the ability to move as one team.
The board itself was also divided, adding complexity to any attempt at organizational transformation.
“I had two constituents to lead: the organization and the board,” says Tia. “And there was a lot of emotion and fractured trust across both.”
Choosing a partner for deep, lasting change
Knowing that success depended on more than a typical coaching relationship, Tia sought a partner who could work alongside her and the organization as a whole.
“I needed truth-telling with empathy. Someone who would understand the dynamics inside the organization, not just me as an individual,” she says.
Moementum stood out to CaringBridge because of its comprehensive approach. The coaching and consulting firm would be able to address CaringBridge’s challenges in executive partnership, culture assessment, leadership coaching, and organizational development in one seamless process. Its Leading People program offered tangible, sustainable tools for leadership growth.
“Moementum didn’t just coach me,” says Tia. “They brought a system, a toolkit, and a process that helped us transform across the organization.”
Moementum began with cultural assessment work, including the Denison Culture Survey, which created a baseline for measuring progress. This data-driven foundation helped shape an action plan to guide CaringBridge through significant cultural evolution.
Building alignment from the boardroom to every employee
The first phase of work focused on team alignment, starting with the board, then the senior leadership team, and finally the broader organization.
“The impact was immediate. Moementum helped us neutralize emotional conversations and focus on facts, which were critical for both the board and the team,” says Tia.
Culture work came next, centered around a complete values redefinition. Rather than adopting generic words, the team co-created values that authentically reflected the behaviors and mindset needed to achieve their mission.
At the same time, leadership development efforts ramped up through Moementum’s Leading People program to build coaching capacity, accountability, and communication skills across the leadership team. The approach was fluid and responsive, adjusting as the organization uncovered new needs and dynamics.
“What stood out most is that the process was fluid. Moementum listened to the organization and adapted in real time,” says Tia.
Embedding culture to drive sustainable growth
With Moementum’s support, CaringBridge achieved measurable improvements:
- Denison Culture Survey scores improved across almost every core index, with positive movement on 37 items, ranging from +1 to +68 points year over year, supported by a high employee response rate.
- Staff began actively using values to guide day-to-day decision-making.
- Leadership capacity grew, leading to stronger internal accountability and cohesion.
- Regrettable turnover decreased by more than 10 percentage points during this time, dropping from a high of 17% at the start of the engagement to under 5% for most of the following year—a clear signal of improved engagement and stability.
The impact extended far beyond internal culture improvements. It positioned CaringBridge to pursue transformational external goals, setting its sights on 10x growth.
“Today, our culture is consistent. Our values show up in hiring, retention, and every major decision we make,” says Tia.
Perhaps most powerfully, Tia’s experience as CEO was fundamentally changed while working with Moementum.
“It felt lonely and isolating before,” she says. “Now, I feel connected to the team and free to lead from a higher level, looking ahead and navigating where we need to go.”
Expanding reach, building on a strong foundation
Today, CaringBridge is working toward a bold vision: growing its reach from 25,000 to 250,000 caregivers served annually, while doubling its revenue.
New product launches, enhanced community connections, and tech upgrades are all underway, made possible by the cultural foundation laid through the organization’s work with Moementum.
“Because of the work we did with Moementum, our organization has the strength and resilience we need to achieve this next stage of impact,” says Tia.
